October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Candle Lighting Ceremony October 3

The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

A Safe Place will host the 10th Annual Candle Lighting Ceremony to remember the victims and to honor the survivors of domestic violence on Thursday, October 3, 2002, on the steps of the Lake County Courthouse at 5 pm.

Phyllis DeMott, Executive Director of A Safe Place will keynote the ceremony and will be joined by members of the Lake County justice system in their support for battered women and their children.

Survivors of domestic violence will share their stories of hope for the future.

A display featuring children’s artwork and t-shirts created by survivors and the Silent Witness Exhibit will be available for public viewing in the courthouse lobby throughout the first week in October. For more information, phone 847-249-5147.
