ANNUAL MEETING SET FOR OCT. 29
National Domestic Violence Advocate to Keynote
MonaLou A. Callery, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the National Advocacy and Training Network, and founding member of SEEDs House, a safe and sober residential facility for battered and sexually abused women, will keynote the 24th Annual Meeting of A Safe Place/ Lake County Crisis Center on Wednesday, October 29, 2003.
A survivor of domestic violence, Callery has impacted the quality of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse services where she has lived, worked and visited in Massachusetts, Texas and Arizona. Callery has devoted more than 20 years to education and advocacy onj behalf of domestic and sexual abuse victims, including experience with the Victim Resoruce Center, Lowell, MA; Arizona Coalitio Against Domestic Violence; Center Against Sexual Abuse, Phoenix; and Governor’s Office for Domestic Violence Prevention, Phoenix. A Safe Place, the nonprofit agency that provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence from Lake, McHenry and northern Cook counties, will use the occasion of its 24th Annual Meeting to unveil architectural and program plans for the first transitional living program for domestic violence survivors and their children in Lake County. Groundbreaking for the facility is scheduled for September 16.
Announcement of A Safe Place’s awards for the 2003 Purple Ribbon Communities and volunteer awards will be included in the evening’s program at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort, Lincolnshire, IL.
