Join in Candle Lighting Event October 2

To Remember Victims of Domestic Violence

Messages of the struggle to flee abuse within their homes and hope for futures without violence will join those of community leaders who work for system accountability as the 11th annual Candle Lighting Ceremony kicks of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Lake County. A Safe Place/ Lake County Crisis Center will sponsor the yearly event scheduled to October 2, 2003, at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.

The Hon. Victoria Rosetti, Lake County Circuit Judge, will keynote the hour-long program beginning at 5 p.m. She will be joined with remarks from Domestic Violence courtroom justices The Hon. Diane Winter and The Hon. Joseph Waldeck. Musical selections will be provided by the Waukegan High School choir.

Survivors of domestic violence and family members of victims of the crime that occurs every nine seconds and affects more than 3 million child witnesses annually in this country will share their stories to increase public awareness and to offer encouragement to those still in abusive relationships that help and services are available to escape the intergenerational cycle of violence.
