Hawthorn Woods Women's Club Recognized for Service to A Safe PlaceThe support and volunteer efforts of a number of individuals, groups and businesses that assist A Safe Place/ Lake County Crisis Center in its mission to eliminate domestic violence were recognized at the Annual Meeting of the agency October 29 at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort. Lisa Charnogorsky and Judy Gustin of Hawthorn Woods accepted the Outstanding Civic Organization Award for the Hawthorn Woods Women’s Club. Members of this organization participate in numerous activities throughout the year to raise funds for A Safe Place as well as other nonprofit agencies. The group’s members participate in several drives to supply school supplies, warm winter clothing and other needed items on an ongoing basis for A Safe Place. Many also volunteer during the holiday period to help organize holiday food and gift donations that are distributed to A Safe Place’s clients. Others provide activities and food items for the nonresidential counseling center’s holiday gathering at the agency’s office at Lake Villa. The Hawthorn Woods Women’s Club was the first group to donate the proceeds from a charitable event to A Safe Place’s new initiative to provide a transitional living program for survivors of domestic violence rebuilding lives of safety and self-sufficiency for themselves and their children. The Club hosted a Winter Charity Ball that raised more than $5,000 for One Safe Place. |
