Abbott VP Selected for Joyce Fitzgerald Memorial Award

Karen Miller, Vice President of Information Technology for Abbott Laboratories, was presented with the Joyce Fitzgerald Memorial Award by A Safe Place/ Lake County Crisis Center at the nonprofit agency’s Annual Meeting October 29.

Miller is serving as Co-Chair of A Safe Place’s Leadership Gifts Committee for its current initiative to build the first transitional living program for battered women and their children in the Lake County area. In addition to providing leadership and direction for the group that has worked to secure lead gifts for the project from area corporations, Miller is heading up a steering committee to direct activities for ‘go public’ groups who are introducing the project and soliciting support from local businesses, civic groups, schools, etc., by geographic areas through the county.

The Joyce Fitzgerald Memorial Award is named for the first board president of A Safe Place and is given to honor a woman for leadership and a true spirit of volunteerism in supporting A Safe Place’s mission to eliminate domestic violence.
