Barat Students Honored
By A Safe Place

The support and volunteer efforts of a number of individuals, groups and businesses who assist A Safe Place/ Lake County Crisis Center in its mission to eliminate domestic violence were recognized at the Annual Meeting of the agency October 29 at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort.

This year’s Youth Award was presented to the students and their faculty sponsors of Barat College at DePaul University in Lake Forest. This spring the campus sponsored a benefit production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues as part of the V-Day project, an international campaign for hundreds of educational and religious institutions addressed the issue of violence against women. Proceeds from the event were donated to A Safe Place.

A Safe Place/Lake County Crisis Center hosted its 24th Annual Meeting October 29 at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort in Lincolnshire.

The nonprofit agency provided nearly 14,000 nights of shelter and served more than 3,300 Lake, McHenry and northern Cook county residents with comprehensive services including individual and group counseling, children’s counseling, and court advocacy in its 2003 fiscal year. It is the only nonprofit agency in the area to offer abuser treatment services. A 24-hour HELP LINE is available at 847.249.4450; TTY 847.249.6557.
