It's Great to Vounteer At A Safe Place

“There is great satisfaction in this work and the staff here is so welcoming and so appreciative,”… Betty Kamy, crisis line volunteer since 2000.

Volunteers at A Safe Place provide more than 6,000 hours of donated time annually in widely varied activities from answering the agency’s 24-hour HELP LINE; assisting victims of domestic violence in preparation to request orders of protection at the Lake County Courthouse; helping in the children’s program; presenting prevention education programs on healthy relationships to students of middle school and high school age; and in presenting community education to civic groups, faith communities, etc.

A Safe Place has an urgent need for bilingual, bicultural volunteers, both to work in direct client services, as well as in community outreach, and in assisting with translation projects.  The agency has also had a rapid expansion in our Healthy Relationships prevention education program for children and adolescents and needs additional volunteers, especially from the northwest and southwest areas of Lake County.

The next 40-hour Domestic Violence Training class is scheduled to begin Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the College of Lake County, Grayslake Campus.

You can really make a difference! For more information about volunteering and the 40-hour training program, contact Volunteer Specialist Stefanie Boyce, at 847.249.5147, Ext. 47. You can download an application here.
