State BOE Approves A Safe Place as Provider For Professional Development Units
The Illinois State Board of Education’s State Teacher Certification Board has approved A Safe Place/ Lake County Crisis Center as an approved provider of Professional Development Units (CPDU). The agency is now able to present programs that Illinois teachers will be allowed to claim toward credits on their certification renewals.
A Safe Place is also a certified provider of professional domestic violence training for professionals including law enforcement, social workers and health providers who interact with survivors of domestic violence and/or their children, and is certified to provide continuing education units (CEUs) to educators and social workers.
Last year the agency presented domestic violence training programs to more than 700 participants from a variety of professions. Knowledge of specific patterns of domestic violence, the interpersonal dynamics of abuse and the inherent dangers of this issue are of significant value to those working in a variety of professions in working with both victims and perpetrators.
