Opportunities for Group/Business Participation
The following activities may be undertaken by organizations, corporations or civic groups to assist A Safe Place. Your ideas for assistance or involvement are encouraged, and we hope that community members will propose additional ways to support A Safe Place.
Fundraising Opportunities:
Fundraising drives
Churches, schools, employee or civic groups can make appeals for support of A Safe Place in the following ways:
- Announcements about A Safe Place and its benefits to the community at meetings or assemblies.
- Statements/Requests for support in print publications such as newsletters or via special mailings.
- Elementary and high schools can consider student fundraising drives
- Organizations can hold bake sales, car washes or other events to raise money to contribute to A Safe Place.
Matching gifts drive
Employers who offer matching gift programs to employees may consider increasing the percentage of gifts they match for A Safe Place as a special show of support.
Targeted Fundraising Efforts
Employers or individual employees may organize solicitation of their company’s vendors for support of A Safe Place. Schools and other organizations may participate in this way as well.
Retail stores and larger retail chains may consider organizing “cash-register” drives by selling purple ribbons at retail locations in support of domestic violence and the campaign for A Safe Place .
Organizations or schools may wish to hold special events for their members or students such as luncheons, walk/run events, or dinner-dances to raise funds for A Safe Place.
Smaller groups may wish to hold smaller, more intimate gatherings to advocate for support of A Safe Place.
Other Opportunities:
- Groups can help raise awareness about A Safe Place by providing links to A Safe Place web site, www.asafeplaceforhelp.org, on their organization’s website. Additional educational information as well as statements of support for the issue, will help “drive traffic” to the domestic violence information available on A Safe Place web site.
- Local media can help to raise public awareness about the issue of domestic violence by providing appropriate journalistic coverage, advertising space, or public service announcements for domestic violence awareness, fundraising events, or general information about A Safe Place.
- Employers can provide domestic violence education programs for their employees A Safe Place can provide materials and presenters to assist in these efforts.
- There are many opportunities for creative special events to educate attendees about domestic violence issues.
- Corporations and civic groups may consider partnerships in hosting events in support of A Safe Place.
- Employers or organizations may offer an educational series. Human Resource professionals can work with A Safe Place to develop specialized seminars or discussions to meet their organization’s needs.
- Police or fire stations, local theaters or other businesses may host “backroom events” that would offer tours of facilities not normally open to the public. The opportunity for an “inside look” provides a great incentive for attendance at one of these fundraising events.
Group Volunteer opportunities:
Groups can participate in painting Transitional Living.
Spring and fall landscaping clean-up and planting efforts would be greatly appreciated.
