Highland Park Partnering with A Safe Place in Observing Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Highland Park Police Department works throughout the year to increase their community’s awareness and prevention of domestic violence and has again organized events to bring this issue to the forefront during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.   In addition to creating an information display in the lobby of the new Police Department at 1677 Old Deerfield Road, the department is encouraging residents to support victims of domestic violence by donating items from A Safe Place/Lake County Crisis Center’s seasonal wish list and bringing them to the police department anytime in October.

Additionally, the Police Department has again partnered with Jewel-Osco Store at 1600 Deerfield Road to promote shopping for staple food items, household products and toiletries for residents of A Safe Place on Saturday, October 14, and ‘filling the trunk of a squad car’ with these needed items.   The Lock Up, storage facility located at 1505 Old Deerfield Road in Highland Park, is donating storage space throughout the month for the police department to store items until they are delivered to A Safe Place at the end of the month.

The City Council of Highland Park officially proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Highland Park during the Council meeting September 25, and recognized A Safe Place for the comprehensive services provided to victims of domestic violence and their children, as well as ongoing community education designed to address and break the cycle of violence.

For more information on donating or volunteering with the Highland Park event, please call Detective Ginger Stokes at the Highland Park Police Department at 847.926.1116 or email her at gstokes@cityhpil.com.
