Open House for New Transitional Living Program
Come join us! as A Safe Place / Lake County Crisis Center celebrates the opening of Lake County ’s first transitional living program for battered women and their children. An Open House is planned for Monday, April 10 at the newly-constructed facility at 2710 17th St. , Zion , IL. Public tours will be given from 3-7 p.m.
“The opening of the new Transitional Living Program, which has been referred to as One Safe Place, is the next step in a continuum of care for survivors of domestic violence as they work to build self-sufficient lives, free from violence,” noted Executive Director Phyllis A. DeMott in announcing the long-awaited opening of the facility.
The three-story structure built on 11.5 acres features 20 independent one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments with a total residential capacity up to 49 persons. Unlike many transitional housing facilities, this program offers extensive onsite supportive services including individual and group counseling, children’s counseling, life skills and opportunities for job skills training.
With the opening of One Safe Place, the nonprofit agency now provides services in six permanent locations, including a confidential emergency shelter, a satellite counseling office in Lake Villa, a co-location in the Lake County Department of Human Services in Waukegan, A Safe Room (D100 in the Court Annex) in the Lake County Courthouse, and abuser assessment and services programming (IPDVA) at a separate office suite in Waukegan. Weekly satellite support groups are also held in donated, confidential space in Antioch , Deerfield , Round Lake Beach , Vernon Hills and Waukegan . The agency’s 24-hour HELP LINE will remain 847.249.4450; TTY 847.249.6557.
