A Safe Place wins National City Children's Champion Award 2007

A Safe Place has been recognized by National City Bank and Voices for Illinois Children as an organization in our community that contributes in an exemplary way to children being safe, healthy, and happy.   A Safe Place is a multi-faceted organization committed to becoming a model for the prevention of domestic violence through empowerment and counseling, intervention and education, research and evaluation in collaboration with the community.   A Safe Place is thrilled to be honored with the 2007 National City Children’s Champion Award for excellence in its programs and services for children in Illinois.

Each year, children’s advocates and counselors at A Safe Place help hundreds of child witnesses to domestic violence deal with conflicting emotions ranging from fear and confusion to guilt and shame.   It is essential that these young victims learn to deal with their strong feelings and to also learn and practice new and healthy ways of communicating and relating to others.   A Safe Place believes that focusing on healthy relationships encourages a violence-free future for these children.
