State’s Attorney Awards Dedication of A Safe Place Staff and Board Member

In recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (April 13-19, 2008), the State’s Attorney honored members of the community who have dedicated themselves to serving victims of crime.

Kathy Faust, who has worked as Senior Court Advocate of A Safe Place for over sixteen years, was given the Justice Award in recognition of her efforts in the criminal justice system to help victims of crime.   Advocates assist victims of domestic violence in obtaining orders of protection at A Safe Room (D-100) in the Lake County Courthouse.   They also give support to victims in the domestic violence courtroom and to those victims who choose to offer testimony during the criminal prosecution of abusers.

Mary Penich, a member of A Safe Place’s Board of Directors, received the Ruth Rosengarden Award for her continued involvement in the community and for her dedication to eliminating domestic violence.

A Safe Place is a not-for-profit, community based organization that provides housing, court advocacy, referrals, and comprehensive counseling programs for victims of domestic violence - adults and children who have been physically, verbally, or emotionally abused.
