40-hour Domestic Violence Training Program September 2010 training
This training is facilitated by A Safe Place in conjunction with CLC, Lake County Health Department, Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, Lake County Adult Probation, Lake Zurich Police Department, Center on Halsted, and various leaders from multiple faith communities to address domestic violence as community concern. The training program covers history and current information on battered women’s movement; dynamics of domestic violence such as the cycle of violence, power and control issues, and barriers in leaving an abuser; effects of domestic violence on children; teen dating violence; Illinois Domestic Violence Act and Violence Against Women Act; orders of protection and legal advocacy; elder abuse; abuser information and legal recourse; working with survivors, including social work code of ethics and intervention skills; lethality assessment tools; and domestic violence in conjunction with immigration, safety, substance abuse, prostitution and human trafficking, religion, racism, LGBT and homophobia, rural populations, mental health, suicide, depression, and persons with disabilities. The purpose of this training is to educate members of the community and professional organizations, including A Safe Place staff and volunteers, to appropriately and safely respond to domestic violence, and to raise awareness to prevent further violence in all facets of the community.
The next 40 hour training is scheduled for September 2010.
