Domestic Violence Shelter
Frequently Asked Questions

What types of services are there for the children living in shelter?

Children who come into the residential program with their mothers are seen individually within 72 hours of their arrival. A children's counselor will do an assessment to determine each child's individual needs. A service plan is created for each child, addressing goals to work towards while the child is in shelter. Some areas within this plan might be health, school, family and safety.

Children's groups are offered in shelter for different age groups: Mentors' group serves children under 6; Kids Group is for those six and older.

Within these groups, children receive age-appropriate domestic violence education and support. Other weekly group activities include Storytime group, Family Movie Night, and Art Therapy, as well as daily spontaneous art/craft groups.
