IPDAV Domestic Violence
Frequently Asked Questions

What is IPDAV?

IPDAV (Intervention Program for Domestic Abuse and Violence) is A Safe Place's intervention program for batterers.

IPDAV personnel perform assessment for men, women, English and Spanish-speaking court-mandated referrals as well as for voluntary participants seeking help for domestic violence issues. If IPDAV recommends domestic violence counseling, the program offers group counseling (men, women and Spanish-speaking).

Both day and evening groups are available.

Assessment fees are charged on a sliding scale basis.

Group charges are $30 per sessions. Because A Safe Place is a nonprofit agency, our fees are lower than many private providers.

IPDAV personnel will also provide referrals to other agencies when appropriate.

How long do the group sessions last?

Currently, the abuser treatment program follows the state mandate of 24 weeks. It is soon expected to be lengthened to a 24-week program.

top

What does IPDAV seek to accomplish?

The group program seeks to encourage persons with domestic violence histories to find ways to change their behaviors. It does not force individuals to change behaviors but provides the client with the tools to do so.

IPDAV addresses the accountability of the abuser to the victim and to the community.

How do we arrange appointments at IPDAV?

Call the IPDAV office at  1.847.249.0005 for more information or to set up an appointment.
