Kraft Employees Support A Safe PlaceA Safe Place/ Lake County Crisis Center has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Kraft Employee Fund. The grant monies are to be expended for A Safe Place’s emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy and children’s programs, which last year served nearly 3,500 Lake County residents. The Waukegan-based nonprofit agency provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, including more than 13,500 nights of emergency shelter annually to residents of Lake, McHenry and northern Cook counties. About 600 residential clients are provided individual and group counseling, including nearly 300 children. Staff and trained volunteers assist victims of domestic violence at the Lake County Courthouse in their applications for orders of protection. Nearly 1,700 orders of protection were granted to domestic violence victims with the assistance of A Safe Place last year. The Kraft Employee Fund is a workplace-giving program supported by contributions from Kraft Foods North American, Inc. employees and retirees across the Chicago area. Kraft Foods North American, Inc. is part of the Philip Morris family of companies. A Safe Place provides comprehensive services to residents of Lake, McHenry and northern Cook counties. Community outreach and prevention education programs in middle and high schools offer information and training to more than 11,000 students, educators and citizens each year.
