The Role of the SchoolSchools can help parents see the effect domestic violence is having on their children. Schools can help children through the transition when a battered woman is trying to end the violence in her life. An adult outside the family can play a key role in helping children break the cycle of violence. “Protective Behaviors Education” needs to be expanded to include a component which emphasizes, “Everyone has the responsibility not to hurt anyone else. People who have hurt someone else are held accountable for their actions.” Conflict resolution needs to be carefully evaluated as to when it is not appropriate. If your school district is setting up an anti-violence task force, that task force must address issues of the effects of domestic violence on children and dating violence. Prevention and Education
