Speakers’ Bureau Volunteer Training Scheduled

A Safe Place will hold a two part Speaker’s Bureau training Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5 & 6, our business office at 2710 17th St., Zion, IL.  The workshop is free and will provide education about domestic violence issues, enabling those interested in the issue to represent the agency in a variety of arenas to inform the public about this critical issue.

The two sessions, which will run from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm each night, give an overview of domestic violence, a crime that affects one in every three women and one in every eight men in this country. Topics for the first session include the history and philosophy of A Safe Place, overview of services provided by the agency, domestic violence definitions and myths, the dynamics of domestic violence, barriers and challenges for victims, and orders of protection.

The second session will offer information on general counseling and documentation of outreach services, most frequently asked questions about the issue and A Safe Place, as well as specific topics used in tailoring presentations to diverse community groups.

Those individuals wishing to volunteer in the Speaker’s Bureau will assist in increasing community awareness surrounding the issues of domestic violence.

For more information, or to register, contact A Safe Place at 847.731.7165, Ext. 108. or e-mail the Volunteer Specialist at kcothell@asafeplaceforhelp.org.
